There is a disconnect between how patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) view their health and how their doctors see it, a survey reveals.

The unpublished survey of 400 Australians with T2DM found that most tend to normalise their overall health as being good, despite signs to the contrary.

Ophthalmologist and 2020 Australian of the Year, Dr James Muecke, says the findings are “disturbing”.
