People with diabetes are at risk of a “third wave” of health effects as a result of unhealthy living and lack of usual care during the COVID-19 lockdown, says a leading endocrinologist.
Dr Ted Wu, director of the Diabetes Centre at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, says GPs can expect to see more diabetes patients with worsening HbA1c and associated morbidity.
The COVID-19 lockdown saw a steep increase in unhealthy behaviours in general. Data from Deliveroo show orders for fish and chips rose by 597% while ice cream orders rose by 139%.
