Scores of women are missing out on life-changing treatments such as menopausal hormonal therapy (MHT) and effective non-hormonal medication, according to a Sydney University clinical professor of obstetrics and gynaecology.

Prof Rod Baber says about 80% of middle-aged women have vasomotor symptoms (commonly known as hot flushes and night sweats) and about a third (38%) have severe symptoms that interfere with their daily activities and with their sleep.

Yet, he says only 15-18% of these women use MHT and even fewer may be aware of the effective non-hormonal therapies available.
