Pre-eclampsia is a multisystem disorder that typically affects 2-5% of pregnant women and is one of the leading global causes of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality.1,2

Once diagnosed, there are no current curative treatments beyond expediting delivery, and pre-eclampsia contributes to around one-fifth of preterm births in developed countries.
