Greater trochanteric pain syndrome is the clinical diagnosis of lateral hip pain.

It is typically a result of pathology in the gluteus medius and minimus tendons and, less frequently, associated bursae.7-9

Pain is usually associated with compression of the gluteal tendons against the greater trochanter in positions involving hip adduction, such as sitting cross-legged.10
