We all have days in practice that don’t go as well as we hope — the consultations that don’t seem to go anywhere, the patient who gets annoyed with
a management plan, and that ‘heartsink feeling’ with particular patients.1
These tricky consultations can be difficult to manage wihout a framework to address the problems and ways to address them.
However, it is possible to develop a structured approach to difficult consultations and this reframing may help to progress things for both patients and ourselves.
