Easing the pain: hard-to-diagnose headaches

Some clinical presentations make my heart sink in despair, knowing that in a vast majority of cases the diagnosis will be nebulous, the investigations often fruitless and the outcome lacking in finality.

The introductory words “I’ve been getting headaches” fill me with dread, not because I expect to find that rare quietly lurking medulloblastoma, but because so often I have no solution. Not uncommonly the headache resolves before I have an opportunity to reveal my lack of diagnostic acumen
