A lesson in compromise

As I’ve become older, wiser and more mellow I’ve come to realise that patients’ firm opinions often differ to mine, and that the best medical outcome may have to be a compromise. Their belief systems may, to me, seem misinformed and indeed irrational, but if I am dogmatic, I will lose their trust, and communication could break down. Taking the middle road of pragmatism has sometimes led to the best possible outcome.
