6 reasons people choose emergency departments over GPs
PEOPLE who have access to a regular GP are 10% less likely to have visited an emergency department in the past year, according to a global study that recommends throwing more resources at maintaining continuous primary care relationships.
The survey of 60,000 patients and 7000 general practices in 34 countries, including Australia, finds patients are more likely to present to EDs when they don't live near a general practice or have no access to after-hours GP services.
