IT DOESN’T really matter what reason employees give for taking a sick day. Their managers remain sceptical about almost everything.
British health fund AXA PPP Healthcare surveyed 1000 managers (business owners, managing directors, CEOs) and the same number of non-executive employees and found influenza, back pain and injury from an accident were considered by management the most acceptable employee excuses for taking a day off work.
But even these scored less than 50% in terms of what they considered acceptable.
