Africa: A sad and dangerous place for new mothers
Ten countries – all in Africa – account for 65% of the annual three million deaths of children aged younger than one month and for 59% of maternal deaths, The Lancet said in an editorial.
The journal pointed to Malaysia, venue for the third Women Deliver conference this week, as an inspiration: maternal mortality in Malaysia has been reduced by 65% following the country’s efforts to educate women.
