AHPRA aims to improve registration renewals

IN A bid to prevent a repeat of the critical backlash it faced last year over registration renewals, AHPRA has launched a nationwide information blitz aimed at getting doctors to pay their fees on time.

The regulator last week sent email reminders to roughly 65,000 practitioners with general or specialist registration ahead of the 30 September renewal deadline. It plans to send two more rounds of reminder emails, as well as three rounds of letters in the next month.

The campaign will target practitioners in all states except Queensland, where doctors were told to register by 30 June for 15 months to synchronise with the other states.

AHPRA was heavily criticised last year after some practitioners were inadvertently left unregistered due to communication problems related to the transition to a national system.
