Interpretationof Australia’s first CareTrack study has divided the medical community. In an MJA editorial it was described as seeing a “dog walking on its hind legs – it is not done well but you are surprised to see it done at all!”
Although the $2 million snapshot of the appropriateness of care was largely welcomed, the methodology and conclusions drawn from the results came under fierce attack.
GP representatives said the indicators used in the study lacked a strong evidence base, while the researchers claim to have used the best evidence available.
