Black Saturday GP running hard to rebuild community
ALMOST three years after Victoria’s tragic 2009 Black Saturday bushfires, Marysville GP Dr Lachlan Fraser has again put out the call to runners and volunteer helpers alike to take part in the third annual Marysville Marathon Festival.
Kicked off in late 2009 and spearheaded by Dr Fraser as a means to help rebuild the devastated region, the festival is set to take place on 27 November.
This year runners will once again attempt a range of distance events, from a 4 km run or walk to the torturous 50 km ultra-marathon course.
Dr Fraser, a keen ultra-marathon runner himself who lost both his home and practice in the fires, told MO he hopes to attract around 1000 runners for the event following last year’s successful festival.
“This important community-building event allows Victorians to show their support for the town, which is still recovering from the devastating Black Saturday fires in February 2009,” Dr Fraser said.
