Breastfeeding mums swap drugs for herbal remedies

Cardiac safety fears have prompted breastfeeding women to shift from using domperidone (Motilium) to herbal remedies to augment lactation, Australian maternal health researchers say.

Interest in the use of domperidone to enhance breast milk supply has fallen by half since 2012 when regulatory warnings were issued about possible links to cardiac arrhythmias, according to figures from the South Australian MotherSafe medication counselling service.
