Burn concern: teeth whiteners recalled

The parliamentary secretary to the treasurer, David Bradbury, signed a consumer protection notice ordering the recall last week.

The affected products are manufactured by Pro Teeth Whitening (Aust) Pty Limited and include Bright White Express – Advanced Teeth Whitening Kit, and Pro Teeth Whitening – Professional Teeth Whitening Pen, which contain hydrogen peroxide in excess of the recognised safe limit of 6% w/w.

Safe limits for the active bleaching agents are based on the requirements of the Poisons Standard 2011, on expert clinical advice published by the Australian Dental Association (ADA), and on a scientific risk assessment published by the European Union's Scientific Committee on Consumer Products.
