Cash incentives boost participation in exercise

The review of 11 studies including a total of nearly 1500 people also found previously sedentary adults responded to incentives 100% of the time.

The success of incentives for sustained exercise could not be determined, although one study found long-term benefit.

Even modest incentives – as low as $3 – have been demonstrated to have positive effects, but the review suggested schemes with indexed or escalating incentives may optimise the benefits.
