Complications of SSRI use during pregnancy

Fetuses from mothers with prenatal depressive symptoms showed reduced body growth and head growth.

Mothers using SSRIs during pregnancy had fewer depressive symptoms than those untreated in the clinical symptom range, and prenatal SSRI use was not associated with reduced body growth, the study found.

However, taking SSRIs during pregnancy was significantly associated with reduced fetal head growth and higher risk for preterm birth.
