Demanding work linked to longer life in FTLD patients

A US study of demographically matched, autopsy-confirmed patients with either FTLD (34 cases) or Alzheimer’s disease (49 cases) linked survival rates with educational and occupational attainment.

Early-onset FTLD patients with more demanding jobs lived longer compared to those with unskilled jobs (average survival 116 months compared to 72 months) in the lowest ranking job grouping, but no effect was found for educational attainment or in patients with Alzheimer’s disease.
