Economy goes down, head trauma goes up

CHILD abuse increases in times of economic crisis, according to a US study of abusive head trauma in children younger than five years.

Researchers pooled hospital data from 74 counties across a five-year period including the recession in 2008–09.

Abusive head trauma increased from 8.9 cases per 100,000 in the population before the recession to 14.7 during it.
