In September 2002 the National Asthma Reference Group (NARG) advising the Department of Health and Ageing was calling for decisive action to curb the over-prescribing of high dose inhaled corticosteroids (ICS).

Then-chair of NARG, Professor Christine Jenkins, told MO at the time that “far more radical proposals than merely promoting dissemination of information” were required.
