First new antibiotic for Gram-negative pathogens in 10 years

THE first new antibiotic registered in Australia in almost 10 years for the treatment of Gram-negative pathogens has been approved by the TGA.

The compound ceftolozane/tazobactam (Zerbaxa, MSD) is approved for treatment in hospital of complicated intra-abdominal and urinary tract infections.
