Gaza blockade ‘hits child health’: report

A report by Save the Children and Medical Aid for Palestinians in June showed since the start of the blockade five years ago, the number of children younger than three being treated for watery diarrhoea has doubled.

Open cesspits are found next to family homes, and in January and February of 2012 three children drowned in the open sewers, the authors said.

Crucial equipment needed to repair sewerage remains on the list of restricted goods allowed into Gaza, with only 20% of what is needed delivered while the remainder sits in warehouses.
