GP fined over treatment of suicidal colleague
Dr Henning was prosecuted by the Medical Board of Australia in connection with two admissions of the patient, a former GP and a co-director of his practice, to the McLaren Vale & Districts War Memorial Hospital (MVD) in 2009 and 2010.
The South Australian Health Practitioners Tribunal found Dr Henning guilty of unsatisfactory professional performance in relation to his assessment and treatment of the patient’s blood-sugar level during both admissions.
The tribunal also found Dr Henning guilty of professional misconduct for failing to:
- inform MVD staff of a possible suicide attempt
- record in MVD clinical notes the possible suicide, and that this was one of his differential diagnoses
- transfer the patient from MVD to a tertiary hospital where she could receive complete
