GPs lag on absolute risk approach to CVD

Adoption of the absolute risk approach to preventing cardiovascular disease (CVD) appears to be lagging in Australia, particularly for primary prevention, new figures show

Australian guidelines recommend both blood pressure and lipid-lowering drugs for older people with prior CVD or a five-year primary CVD risk above 15%, but data from almost 10,000 people aged 45-75 show that few of the 20% found to be at high risk are receiving such therapies.
