My husband’s 50th birthday was the excuse for gathering a small group of friends to do this trek. It turned out to be an excellent ruse for persuading us that half a century isn’t so old after all – and not only because many pilgrims are retired.

After our initial blisters wore off and we settled comfortably into the daily routine of walking and talking, I watched members of our group blossom under the effects of pleasantly strenuous exercise in the open air, lashings of fresh, delicious food, and of being part of the camino community.
