Health groups say carbon tax is in the nation’s long-term interest

PRIME Minister Julia Gillard, still wearing out her shoe leather as she spruiks the Government’s carbon pricing package, has received support from health groups urging Australians to support the measures in the nation’s long-term interest.

Climate and Health Alliance convenor Fiona Armstrong said the wellbeing of Australians depended on taking effective action on climate change.

“Not only will we reduce the adverse health effects from climate change, but we can realise other important co-benefits, such as preventing respiratory and cardiovascular diseases by shifting to clean, renewable energy generation systems,” she said.
