History of falls may not be revealed without questioning

The University of Adelaide’s discipline of general practice conducted interviews with 11 community-dwelling women aged older than 65 years in a bid to understand why falls were not reported.

The participants said they would not seek help if they believed the fall to be “not serious” due to lack of pain, and some said they did not want to “make a fuss”, priding themselves on being independent and coping well.

Patients need greater awareness that it is legitimate and important to discuss falls with their GP, the authors said.
