How this GP has perfected the art of making specialist appointments
Negotiating a timely specialist appointment for our patients requires a cocktail of local knowledge, charm and street cunning.
We have to do this because if it’s left to the patient to make the appointment, the sick ones are likely to be dead; and the paediatric patients will need a geriatrician by the time a routine appointment comes around.
I try charm first.
“Good morning, Marjorie. It’s Jon Fogarty from the Point Clare Surgery here. How are you this fine morning?”
“What do you want?”
