How I solved the curious case of the ‘menopausal man’

WE ARE all familiar with hot flushes and night sweats in menopausal patients. But when it’s men presenting with these symptoms, a significant amount of investigation might be required, as I discovered.

In my first tricky hyperhidrosis case, 45-year-old Mr NB presented with a two-week history of headaches and hot flushes resulting in visible beads of sweat on his skin. His medical history was unremarkable.

No change in dietary habits or social history were noted. FBE, TSH, UEC, ESR were all normal, and he was reassured that nothing drastic was likely to be the cause.
