Now, from Europe, comes research indicating that we definitely do like ‘jymmin’ – a workout to musical feedback.

Music is thought to modulate perceived strenuous exertion through distraction, allowing the athlete to pay less attention to unpleasant proprioceptive sensations.

But scientists wanted to investigate whether the effect was solely due to distraction from proprioceptive feedback.

They measured perceived exertion and metabolic values during workouts with and without “musical agency”.
