Patients confused on chance of chemo cure

US researchers interviewed 1193 individuals with stage IV lung or colorectal cancer to determine patient expectations about therapy, finding unwarranted optimism among the cohort.

“We found that 69% of patients with lung cancer and 81% of those with colorectal cancer who were alive four months after diagnosis and who had opted to receive chemotherapy provided survey responses indicating inaccurate expectations about [its] curative potential,” they wrote.
