Prominent rural GP avoids suspension
A prominent rural GP who enlisted a registrar to write his former girlfriend a prescription for diazepam has avoided suspension.
Dr Scott Lewis, the sole GP in the remote SA town of Wudinna, met with his then-girlfriend to break off the relationship in January 2013.
At the time, Dr Lewis was president of the Rural Doctors Association of SA.
His girlfriend asked him to arrange a prescription for diazepam, even though she had already been prescribed an amount under the care of her regular GP, a community mental health service and a psychiatrist.
