Questions over bronchoscopy competency

Some thoracic physicians are not performing the bare minimum number of bronchoscopies to maintain competency, an Australian study has found.

In a survey of 517 TSANZ members and advanced trainees, only half the specialist reported that they performed more than the recommended 50 procedures per year. The survey findings, also showed that 23% of physicians were performing less than the 20 procedures a year deemed by as the minimum standard required to maintain necessary skills in TSANZ guidelines.
