Respiratory hospital admissions could be reduced

Hospitalisation rates for asthma and COPD are about 50% higher in Australia than other developed countries, and many admissions are potentially avoidable through primary care interventions, a new report suggests.

Asthma hospitalisation rates have fallen slightly in the last few years but remain above the OECD average, according to a report on Health Care Quality Indicators released by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.

The report shows that the asthma hospital separation rate for people aged 15
