Revamp helps foot service see patients sooner

A podiatry service that treats diabetic foot problems has tackled its long waiting lists by re-designing its intake and discharge pathways and taking steps to minimise staff burnout.

The High Risk Foot Service run by the Hunter and New England Local Health District was achieving lower than average amputation rates and length of hospital stays for patients, but these outcomes were not being seen across the local population because many people could not access the service or faced long waiting times for it.
