Running doctor raises funds for Black Saturday community

The event, created and spearheaded by Dr Fraser – himself a keen ultra-marathon runner – in 2009 as a means of rebuilding community spirit and attracting tourism back to the devastated region, attracted over 1200 runners who contested a range of distance events including the full-course marathon.

Dr Fraser, not running in the event himself this year for the first time due to administrative responsibilities, said despite wet conditions early in the day making for muddy track conditions, all runners embraced the spirit of the day.

“The rain eased off and the runners all came back from the long run covered in mud all up the back of their legs but they actually loved it,” Dr Fraser told MO. “It was a great day with a terrific community feel about it.”
