Singing, dancing GPs on tour

The musical was co-written by NSW GP Dr Genevieve Yates and Victorian GP Dr Gerard Ingham, who met as members of the Simon and the GPETs band. The performance portrays the relationship between heartsink patient Mr Black — a character originally written by Dr Yates for a play — and GP Dr While who had previously featured in a song penned by Dr Ingham.

“It occurred to us that they might meet each other and the creative process flowed from that,” Dr Ingham told MO.

The extended version of the musical is directed by Dr Katrina Anderson, a clinical senior lecturer in general practice at ANU. All the cast members —including the chorus in the waiting room who “never get to leave” — are also GPs.
