So, what’s in a name?
IN MAY 2013, an expert conference was held in Chicago to decide the fate of the medical terms ‘vulvovaginal atrophy’ and ‘atrophic vaginitis’. The procedure was rigorous and thorough and included voting on alternative names using written ballot papers.
The names had been used by doctors to describe the symptoms of a woman going through menopause for decades, if not centuries. But now there were concerns that they didn’t describe the symptoms of menopause properly.
