Statin muscle pain a 'nocebo': study

Muscle aches and pain reported by patients taking statins are often a nocebo effect, findings from a blinded European trial suggest.

Patients are more likely to report muscle-related adverse events when they know they are taking a statin compared with when they do not know they are taking them, according to a blinded randomised trial.

The findings come from a lipid-lowering trial in which half the 10,000 participants took atorvastatin 10mg and half took placebo.
