Vaisman pursued by work ombudsman for underpaying staff

DR JACK Vaisman (PhD), director of the embattled Advanced Medical Institute, is being taken to court by the Fair Work Ombudsman over claims he underpaid a call centre worker $22,942 in wages between October 2006 and October 2008.

Documents lodged with the Federal Magistrates Court in Sydney allege Dr Vaisman was “centrally involved” with underpaying the worker, who was responsible for taking calls and making bookings for prospective AMI customers. Dr Vaisman indicated that he would fight the case on the grounds that the former employee was seen on camera sleeping during shifts and therefore did not deserve to be paid.

The matter is scheduled for a directions hearing on 9 August.
