Vitamin D levels: higher is not better in old age
Higher levels of vitamin D are not beneficial to health of older men and may be harmful for some non-bone health outcomes, a study from NSW has shown.
The optimum range of serum 25 (OH)D is 50-75 nmol/L, according to a survey of vitamin D levels in 1659 elderly men living in Sydney. And in a surprise finding, the study by Concord Hospital showed that taking vitamin D supplements had no effect on serum vitamin 25 (OH)D levels.
