Walking as good as rehab for COPD

If pulmonary rehab is not available, a program of supervised walking training on a hospital track could achieve equivalent improvements in health-related quality of life and exercise capacity, according to a study from the University of Sydney.

Researchers assessed the impact of an 8-10 week program of ground-based walking training supervised by physiotherapists in 130 patients with moderate-to-severe COPD.

Compared with a control group, patients assigned to the walking training showed improvements in health-related quality
