I recall seeing a doctor in Sydney. She had a great reputation, busy and apparently at the top of her game and the peak of her professional powers.
But her tax return showed a taxable income about one-third less than I expected. It was a good income, to be sure, but was more than $70,000 below comparable practices.
On the face of it, I could not see why this would be so.
It’s a professionally awkward position to be in. Doctors are sensitive to anything suggesting they are “below average”, even though half have
