Tobacco use high in European films compared to Hollywood
ALTHOUGH Hollywood films have been criticised for the resurgence in cinematic depictions of cigarette smoking, an analysis shows movies from other cultures are far worse.
A comparison of 500 films produced in the US with more than 300 from Europe and South America shows young people are much more likely to encounter tobacco and alcohol use in non-Hollywood fare. Films from Iceland have the highest proportion of smokers, with 100% of ‘youth-rated’ films (for those aged 14 or older)
