British GPs neglect the basics of paediatric care

British GPs are failing to carry out basic checks on children with a high temperature that could signal life-threatening illnesses such as sepsis, meningitis and pneumonia, researchers say.

Guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) says GPs must measure and record temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and capillary refill time "as part of the routine assessment of a child with fever".
