Initial tests clear Novartis flu vaccine

The Italian Pharmaceutical Agency (AIFA) initial testing had ruled out contamination of two batches of the Novartis FLUAD vaccine that had been implicated in the deaths of three people.

Health Minister Beatrice Lorenzin says the initial test results allowed authorities to breathe a "sigh of relief" but confirmed tests were continuing to completely rule out any causal link between the vaccine and the fatalities.

AIFA says it has received reports of 19 people who have died following administration of the vaccine from a total of eight batches. However, it believes it received the latest 16
