Patient dies after doctor orders him off his meds
A New Zealand GP has been sent on a 12-month education program after his oversight most likely caused the death of a patient.
The New Zealand Health and Disability Commissioner found the doctor failed the patient by taking him off warfarin without fully understanding his medical history.
The GP claims he asked the man why he was using warfarin but says he misinterpreted his response.
He says it was only after the death that he checked his notes and uncovered records of the heart surgery he had missed.
