Widespread dermatitis in UK hospitals

A spike in hand dermatitis among UK hospital staff has the potential to increase infection rates, a study shows.

It says the incidence has increased significantly because of an increased focus on hand hygiene.

This could be counterproductive, say dermatologists, who note that skin infections take longer to heal on damaged skin and having irritated skin can deter handwashing.

This means greater effort is needed in the development of less irritating handwashing products, say the University of
