Four GPs admit breaches of Medicare’s 30/20 rule for phone consults: PSR

The PSR has reported its first cases of doctors repaying Medicare rebates after breaching the 30/20 rule on phone consults.
Introduced in October 2022, the rule means doctors are automatically referred to the Professional Services Review (PSR) if they claim 30 or more telephone attendance services a day on 20 days or more in a rolling 12-month period.
PSR director Associate Professor Antonio Di Dio said a handful of cases in July and August represented the first times the PSR had received such referrals, to his knowledge.
He said there was no targeted compliance crackdown in the two months and the GPs just happened to be referred to the PSR around the same time.
